ROSE HEGELE

Canadian soprano Rose Hegele explores the extremes of human vocal and artistic expression in 20th and 21st century music. Active across genres spanning the avant-garde to western classical chamber, opera, and sacred music, Rose creates healing spaces for audiences to embrace their complexity and humanity. Recent highlights include an artist residency and duo performance with violinist Roseminna Watson on Cape Cod at Music in the Studio (July 2026), producing and singing as Soprano 1 in Nightingale Vocal Ensemble's “A New Way to Breathe,” centered around a commission by Juhi Bansal (May 2026); premiering Derek David's “Der Freyd fun Yidishn Vort” at New Gallery Concert Series's April 2026 season finale; and completing an Artist Residency at UC Davis with duo partner pianist Sakurako Kanemitsu in February 2026.  

As a featured vocal soloist, Rose performed in the 50th Anniversary of the International Computer Music Conference (ICMC 2025), Pierre Boulez's "Le Marteau sans maître" at Boston's Institute of Contemporary Art (January 2025), the world premiere of "Five Ways to Die" with Experiments in Opera (June 2024), a collaborative recital with pianist Keith Kirchoff at the Alba Music Festival (June 2024), the soprano solo in Morton Feldman's "Rothko Chapel" at Boston's Symphony Hall (April 2024), the role of "Gloria" (Double) in Tod Machover's opera VALIS at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (September 2023), and premiered William Thomas McKinley's "The Recycler" (2015) with Lugano Percussion Ensemble (February 2023).

A collaborative tour de force, Rose has performed with multiple ensembles under the guidance of Andris Nelsons, Samy Rachid, Vimbayi Kaziboni, Kelly Corcoran, James Burton, Jeff Means, and Bruce Hangen. Performing and producing regularly with Nightingale Vocal Ensemble and Sakura/Rose Duo, Rose’s collaborative work extends to performances with Sound Icon, Ludovico Ensemble, Guerilla Opera, Carduus, and Vox Futura.

Dedicated to education through artistry, Rose has participated in artist residencies and presented masterclasses at Brown University, University of California - Davis, University of Texas at Austin, Roger Williams University, Frost School of Music, Berklee College of Music, and Clark University. In addition to her private voice studio, Rose teaches Voice and Chamber Music for Singers at the Upper Valley Music Center and Voice and Musicianship at the Suzuki School of Newton. She holds a Post-Master's Fellowship from Berklee College of Music, a Master's in Contemporary Classical Music Performance from the Boston Conservatory at Berklee, and a Bachelor of Music from the Eastman School of Music.

Both outside of and connected to her music performance and teaching, Rose enjoys learning languages (currently Yiddish thanks to Derek David’s introduction while working on “Der Freyd fun Yidishn Vort”) and studying world religions. She loves singing in spiritual spaces, including churches and synagogues, with the goal of bringing congregants into sacred presence. She currently sings as the soprano section leader at the First Parish Church in Weston, MA, as a cantor at St. Denis Roman Catholic Church in Hanover, NH, and as a guest vocalist at Martha’s Vineyard Hebrew Center for the annual High Holidays. She plans to further her sacred musical life through continued private study and an eventual doctorate!
