About the Event

Nightingale’s program, The Divine in Nature, features a cycle of five original part songs set to the poetry of influential poets of the United States from the 19th and 20th centuries. Conceptually, the cycle moves through the course of a day on Earth and explores themes surrounding the divinity that exists in our stunning natural world. Each piece addresses a unique structural moment of the day-night cycle, from the break of dawn in the morning to the majesty of the heavens at midnight (dawn, afternoon, evening, and night). The set ends with Robert Frost’s words “Nothing Gold can Stay,” emphasizing the ever changing dynamics of cosmic forces in our world, and thus the impermanent and precious nature of our human lives.

This unique program was conceived of when Nightingale was invited to participate in the 2021 Ketevan Sacred Music Festival, an annual international gathering of choirs and instrumentalists from diverse spiritual backgrounds, styles, and traditions centered in Old Goa, India. Nightingale is honored to participate this year (virtually), and to represent the transcendent poetry of New England natives.
