About the Event

Rose performs the role of Linda Lampton in workshops for a new production of  Tod Machover’s landmark 1987 opera VALIS in February 2022, directed by Jay Scheib and conducted by Julia Carey

VALIS is based on the semi-autobiographical novel by science fiction writer Philip K. Dick. In his review of the recording on Bridge (which continues to be a best-seller for the label), Thomas May wrote that Machover “fashioned a score of labyrinthine complexity to evoke the story's many-layered strands of meaning and imagery.” In a program note to the original production, Machover wrote that Dick’s novel “seemed to uncannily address so many of my own concerns, from the obsessive search for unifying principles of human experience, to the complex interrelationship between individual mental imagination and external objective truth, to the potential – and the limits – of advanced technology."
